Police were called just before 2 a.m. to reports of an explosion at MacArthur's Lake Apartments. Police arrived to hear gunfire coming from the complex. Officers were unable to make contact with a suspect by phone, but police determined the man's identity and that he was having a mental health crisis. Fred Burton allegedly fired on armored vehicles, striking them at least four times. Just before 6 a.m., two officers shot and killed Burton.
